Hong Kong celebrity blogger Hasheeme Wong ready for Wimdu Taipei!

This is a blog post by Hong Kong celebrity blogger Hasheeme Wong

WIMDU HK

Last two weeks i have a meeting with a German Base Company called WIMDU through my friend, this company is the professional of accommodation rental in the world which have some crazy places like castle over the world that you can stay! In the meeting we both have many good ideas like we teamed up with PRESS MINI x WIMDU : The Europe Trip. Also during the meeting i first know that there are many accommodations in HK and some of them are big/small house or even a boat, that’s amazing!

Later i helped WIMDU HK for the shooting of one apartment in Mongkok, that place is a little bit small but everything you need is ready and the interior design is not that bad too.

People who love travel and getting into the living culture, WIMDU is the good one for you to choose a good place to stay (it’s look like advertising :P )

BTW, i will team up with WIMDU to visit Taipei soon and feature in madness & yoho soon, stay tuned.

Wimdu Hong Kong Global Traveler Campaign: Maison les Délices

First of all, many many thanks to Wimdu Hong Kong for it’s full support in the simple yet often overlooked attitude, which is to “Travel like a Local”. Are you already tired of the overly-catered, similar-everywhere accommodation style, when you are out of town? I want you to read on. You will soon realize there is a new way out.

After coming back from Canada, the one desire that always comes up is to spend a weekend close to the nature without much hassle. Okay, not with the wild bears, but something close to a very down-to-earth neighborhood walk where you get enough sun, natural breeze on top of hearing old stories and staying at somewhere nice. Wimdu Hong Kong told me about Maison les Délices, located in Kam Tin, Yuen Long, would be able to satiate. I decided to bring along a close friend Ivan just to chill and catch up.

Located conveniently alongside the West Rail Line in the New Territories, it didn’t take us very long to get to the classy establishment. Kam Tin is an area that is known for its history filled with mixed culture. Some of the last bit of the remaining Walled Villages including Kat Hing Wai was in the area and they were all on our way.

Many of these Walled Villages dated all the way from the Ming and Qing dynasty. Few of the families would even offer seasonal Poon Choi (Big Bowl Feast according to Wikipedia) which is one of the most local taste you can find in Hong Kong.

Our host, Vanessa, at Maison les Délices has an unparalleled artistic sense and managed to channel it through showing us around the area, and certainly, her very own self-designed beautiful living space with taste, appropriately matched up by art collections from all over the world. Perfect for all you artsy heads out there =)

To me, one of the most important perk I can get from “Travel like a local” is to get the very unique human connection through spending time with the host, instead of the empty walls in a hotel room. Is there anything that would beat a Mojito welcoming session with the hosts, and we can just sit down and talk? Everyone, when was the last time you get to just calm yourself, sit down, and genuinely talk with someone interesting you just met?

And to learn about their life (this is Adrian aka DJ Death, our host’s son and our new friend)?

We followed up with more chatting and walking around in the neighborhood before we headed to dinner.

We closed the evening to more jamming and sharing with DJ Death, and woke up to a very delicious breakfast prepared by Vanessa.

Thank you  Vanessa and Wimdu Hong Kong for all these amazing travelling experience. For now, please stay tuned for more drive from me for you to travel =)

Wimdu Hong Kong Secret Boat Party

A little over a week ago, Wimdu Hong Kong hosted its first ever boat party. Aka, our official launch event in Hong Kong. Our theme was: Party like a fisherman. We had our event hosted on a renovated, luxurious and classic junk boat. This event was held jointly with Secret Tour Hong Kong. View more details about Wimdu‘s luxurious traditional Chinese styled junk boat here.

Meeting at a pier in Aberdeen, guests were taken to the junk boat via sampan (a small Chinese wooden boat) and greeted with wine, music and great company.

- Thanks Mrs Yeung (sampan lady) for the communting.

A few guests (minus the Hosts of course) didn’t know much about Wimdu, so the boat party gave us the perfect opportunity to promote the company, and Wimdu hosts got the chance to describe some of their beautiful properties all in a relaxed and fun intimate setting.

- Guests talking to Wimdu Hong Kong staff and CEO

Guests ranged from Wimdu hosts, press and media (HK Magazine, CNNGo, Next Magazine, Milk Magazine, etc.) and travellers of Secret Tour Hong Kong and Wimdu Hong Kong. More than 70 people were in attendance to mingle, eat and have fun.
Also in attendance was Groupon’s shadow CEO, Lou Chan. Lou is currently a part of Wimdu Hong Kong’s Global Traveler campaign called “Travel Global, Stay Local” and is visiting 7 Wimdu Hong Kong properties and 1 Seoul property as an ‘undercover’ local.

Beverages (wine, beer and soft drinks) and food (pizza, pasta and chicken wings) were available throughout the night. Guests were satisfactorily full, and maybe a little… tipsy towards the end of the event.

-Wimdu

Halfway through the event, Wimdu Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau’s CEO, Charlene Choi, gave a small presentation about Wimdu, and all guests were given press kits and towels with the Wimdu logo on it as a show of our appreciation.

- Guests listening to Charlene’s speech

-Wimdu

-Wimdu staff giving out towels to guests

–Wimdu

Although the junk boat was anchored to one spot, guests still had the opportunity to breathe in fresh sea air and enjoy a stunning view, all the while of course, having a glass of wine or a cold beer or soda.As the night progressed, it was clear everyone was having a good time and that the event was a success.

Experiencing Wimdu!!!

This is a post by Wimdu guest DJ Noodles

I went to Hong Kong last week for work. Raffi from alivenotdead.com helped to get me a chance to experience staying at an apartment from Wimdu‘s system. It’s a great chance for me to experience the real life in Hong Kong!

Wimdu is a website where you can find a comfort apartment in many cities in the world. It is good to save some cost for staying. Also, its a trustable system with easy access website.

Let’s take a look of my first time living in a real apartment in Hong Kong.

It’s a small living room right after you enter.

There’s two rooms in this apt with comfortable beds.

The apartment was new with closet in each room.

Another room.

It’s a clean bathroom.

A little kitchen. You can actually cook here!

This was a great experience for me to live in an actual apartment in Hong Kong. It was comfortable and clean. Also, it was nice that i could choose the location that is more convenient for my staying.

謝謝Charlene和Raffi! Big thanks to Charlene and Raffi!

Special thanks to,

A Taste of Local Hong Kong

This is a post by Wimdu guest CK

preview_big

Having recently moved back from a three year stay in Japan, I moved in with my sister who lives in Soho. Soho is a place in Hong Kong filled with a lot of foreigners, so living there, I never really felt as if I was in Hong Kong.I wanted to experience a more authentic Hong Kong and my best mate, who just flew in from the States, and I had a lot of catching up to do so we decided to rent a place we could stay overnight – mainly so we could gossip without getting eavesdropped on by our family members, but also so that we could experience a more local Hong Kong.

Having found out about Wimdu from my sister, my friend and I checked the site out and explored the different properties up for rent. We wanted a place that we thought was ‘local’, but not a place we would have to travel for a long time for. We happened upon a property in North Point – a room with two double beds and an en suite bathroom with amazing amenities

preview_big

Although the both of us had lived in Hong Kong for over 14 years, we never really explored the Eastern district of Hong Kong having always lived in the Kowloon district, so we decided that it would be nice to experience a whole new Hong Kong that we hadn’t before. Something more authentic, something more local.

The flat was pretty easy to get to. It was just two or three minutes away from the station fortunately! We didn’t have to walk around in the Hong Kong heat and humidity with our overnight bags for long! The apartment itself was very homey and was a traditional styled Hong Kong flat. Everything was very clean and the white marble tiled floors and white painted walls made a small flat seem bigger and brighter! More importantly, the neighbourhood was quiet and we had the privacy to stay up and have a girl’s night.

preview_big

Ms. Lam, our Host doesn’t speak a lot of English, so we were worried about the language barrier, but it wasn’t as difficult to communicate with her as we thought it would be because she had someone in her family to help with the translation. Ms. Lam is very friendly and she made us feel at home, telling us that we were welcomed to use the kitchen, washing machine and wireless internet. She even gave us towels for drying up after the shower and hangers for our clothes. Ms. Lam really provided everything for us!

Chilling out in North Point with my best mate was a lot of fun! We were both amazed at how much we felt at home in the apartment and at how much more we both finally felt as if we’ve arrived in Hong Kong.

Sassy Staycation with Wimdu

This is a post by Andrea from Sassy Hong Kong.

Wimdu

One of my favorite perks of life in Hong Kong is ease with which I can jet off for a weekend to all sorts of exotic places that before moving here I couldn’t locate on a map, let alone dream of visiting. However, the costs of all that travel can add up, and to be honest, after a few years of living in Asia, I’ve found myself thinking it might be nice to deviate from the standard vacation plans, which usually involve international hotels or beach villas that (as fantastic as they are) all begin to blur together after awhile. Enter Wimdu, a new-to-Hong-Kong service that matches hosts with an extra room (or sometimes an entire extra flat/home) to rent with guests who want to experience the city “like a local”.

I have to admit that before meeting the girls behind Wimdu Hong Kong, I had heard a bit about a similar concept (“couch surfing”), but thought that it was something party-seeking backpackers and students on gap year did strictly because of lack of finances for a trip, and had not really considered it as a vacation option for families or working professionals. After browsing the Wimdu website, I quickly realized that I was very wrong – stylish flats in Central, rooms in luxurious country houses in the New Territories, and even entire luxury junk boats, are all available in Hong Kong, many at fraction of what a night in a hotel room would cost.

Wimdu

Wimdu invited the Sassy girls to one of these properties for a little getaway from Central that we dubbed the “Sassy Staycation”. For our Staycation, we visited “Aux Delices”, a lovely house and gourmet private kitchen in Yuen Long (located along the West Rail line in the New Territories). The hostess of Aux Delices was present during our stay to chat, get us acquainted with the house, give us tips about getting around the area, and even prepared a delicious meal for our group. In spite of the rainy weather, we had a wonderful time on our little girls’ trip. After a little walk around the village, we enjoyed chatting and flipping through magazines poolside over a glass of wine before sitting down to a home cooked meal. Although we had planned for a bit more girl-talk and manicures in the private upstairs living space shared by our three rooms, with our bellies full and cushy beds awaiting, we all called it an early night and reconvened over breakfast in the garden the next morning. There is something so relaxing about being somewhere quiet, surrounded by lush green mountains…all of us returned to our “real lives” the following morning feeling refreshed as if we had been somewhere far away for several days (in reality, we were less than an hour from Central and gone for under 24 hours).

A part of the Staycation group after lots of yummy food, dessert and wine!

Our Sassy Staycation definitely has opened my eyes to the fact that there is a great big world of travel options out there beyond the standard, which is without a doubt worth exploring. Aside from a quick, local, getaway like we enjoyed, Wimdu’s international properties (across Asia, Europe, and the US) sound like a great way to get a more unique or authentic experience in a foreign country than would typically be offered by a hotel – how fun would it be to stay in an over-water bungalow built from bamboo in Boracay, hang out in a traditional Japanese house with locals in Tokyo, or, if money were no object, spend the night being treated like royalty in a real castle in the UK? Hester commented that Wimdu’s full-flat rental properties are a wonderful solution for families, as they alieviate the need to coordinate multiple hotel room bookings and provide access to a kitchen. Anyone who has ever racked up a giant hotel mini-bar tab while trying to re-shuffle things to make space for their own goodies – yes, I’m guilty of this– can appreciate what a money saver a fridge can be. And for those of us who have turned our spare bedroom into a walk in closet, wouldn’t it be great to be able to refer visitors to an apartment just down the street, rather than having them cooped up on your sofa during their trip to see you in Hong Kong? I love my friends and family, but there are times when I would gladly contribute to the nightly cost of a little apartment on Caine Road to have them jet lagged and making a 3 AM snack in their own space!

On the flip side of things, Wimdu is also always looking for people who want to open their homes to guests from around the world, and we’ve heard talk that a few Sassy members have already signed up to make rooms in their apartments available for visitors. If you are one of these girls, we’d love to hear how it worked out for you!
